SAFI, THE LITTLE MOTHER
Burkina Faso/Italy
2004
Duration: 30′
Director: Rasò Ganemtorè
Photography: Lionel Cousin
Production: Kenzi Productions/Porte Rouge

When Safi’s mother dies giving birth, she is left, at the age of eight, with a newly born baby in her arms. She must save him from the local ancient tradition of killing orphan babies to spare the evil eye. Escaped to the city, she will find compassion and support in a neighbouring family and in many women working at the local market, willing to feed the baby as their own, often with their own milk.
